Dark Waters is a Giclée abstract sea print reproduced from my original painting and inspired by the deeper, more dramatic moods of the ocean.
 
Rich layers of deep blue, teal and green create an atmospheric background, while expressive sweeps of white and pale blue move across the composition like waves breaking through darker water. Small flashes of brighter blue add further depth and energy, drawing the eye through the painting.
 
I wanted Dark Waters to capture the contrast between the beauty and power of the sea. Unlike the brighter turquoise tones found in some of my coastal work, this piece explores a moodier ocean palette, evoking the feeling of deeper water, changing weather and waves moving across the surface.
 
The abstract composition allows the movement to remain open to interpretation. The lighter forms might suggest breaking waves, sea spray or shifting currents, while the darker surroundings create a sense of depth and distance.
