Hello, I'm Laura, a self-taught contemporary artist based in Romsey, Hampshire, creating original artwork inspired by the coast, the sea and the textures found within the natural landscape.
Creativity has always been part of my life. From drawing and painting as a child to experimenting with textiles and design at school, I have always been happiest when I'm making something.
My path to becoming an artist wasn't a conventional one. After qualifying as a Beauty Therapist in 2007, I built a career in an entirely different creative industry, but my love of art never disappeared.
In 2025, after writing and illustrating two children's picture books, I found myself drawn back to painting. What began as a return to something I had always loved quickly became something much bigger — and Laura Boden Art began to take shape.
My Art & Inspiration
The coast has become one of the strongest influences in my work. I’m endlessly inspired by the movement of the sea, changing light, weathered shorelines and the colours and textures found in shells, rocks and beneath the water.
Time spent in Cornwall has been a particular source of inspiration. I love the contrast between dramatic seas and quiet stretches of coastline, and the way the colours can change completely depending on the weather, tide and time of day.
My work combines this love of the coast with texture, movement and experimentation. I create contemporary seascapes and abstract pieces using layers of colour and tactile detail, allowing each artwork to develop its own character as I work.
As my collection continues to evolve, I’m exploring even more of the natural forms found along the shoreline and beneath the sea, including textured seascapes, shells and coral-inspired artwork.
or me, coastal art isn’t about recreating a particular view exactly. It’s about capturing something of the movement, atmosphere and feeling of being beside the sea.
Texture, Movement & Individuality
I love creating artwork that has more to discover the closer you look. Texture, movement and detail are an important part of my work, whether I’m building the surface of a seascape, allowing colours to flow organically through an abstract piece or adding carefully placed embellishments that interact with the light.
I work intuitively, combining different techniques and materials depending on the piece. Rather than trying to make everything perfectly uniform, I embrace the natural variations that happen during the creative process. These unexpected details are often what give an artwork its individuality.
My coastal work continues to evolve as I experiment with new textures and subjects, from atmospheric seascapes to shell and coral-inspired pieces. What connects them is my fascination with the colours, forms and textures of the natural world.
Every original artwork is created with care given to the details and finish of each piece.
A Little More About Me
When I’m not painting, I’m happiest spending time with my family, getting outdoors with my dogs and enjoying long walks through the woodlands and countryside around Hampshire. Whenever we can, we also escape to the beach and coast, with Cornwall holding a particularly special place in my heart. I never seem to come home without new ideas, photographs or little details that find their way into my work.
Creativity has also taken me in another direction through writing and illustrating children’s picture books. Creating stories and bringing their characters to life through illustration gave me the confidence to reconnect with art and ultimately played an important part in my return to painting.
I’m completely self-taught as an artist, and I think that has encouraged me to experiment rather than feel restricted by a particular way of working. I’m always learning, trying new techniques and allowing my work to evolve naturally.
What began as a return to something I had loved since childhood has grown into Laura Boden Art, and I’m incredibly excited to see where it takes me next.
